We start these cruises 12 times
a day on larger (20 & 25 passenger) Family vessels and 12 passenger
Zodiacs. Upon arrival at Seaside Adventures and after check-in
we all put on the exposure suits and head out on an exciting marine wild
life
excursion out into the Clayoquot Sound. (On our 25 passenger vessel exposure
suits are not needed.) We will stop and visit the many Eagles, watch them
building nests, tend to their young, fish and soar on the air currents
above. From there we continue on our journey out to the traditional feeding
grounds of the Grey whale. Always keeping an eye out for a pod of Orcas
(killer Whales) as they pass through on their hunt for food. Stops may
be made to view seal and sealions colonies at their local haul-outs. A
very important part of every cruise is the bird wild life. One of our
favorite areas to do this is in the off shore bird sanctuary where 9 species
of birds nest at different times throughout the seasons. Some of the species
are Puffins, Gulls Cormorants, Common Muirs and many other types. In this
region we see Grey Whales, Orcas, Humpbacks and Minkies.
Throughout
these cruises we are on the lookout, and often see Porpoises, Sunfish,
River Otters and Sea Otters. Our guides take pride in sharing both history
and relative native folklore throughout the entire cruise.
Come
and experience with us the spectacular sights of the 22,000 to 23,000
Gray whales on their mass northward migration from the begining of March
to mid April each year.
March 1
through to October 31, experience the gentle giants feeding and frolicking
in their natural habitat foraging in the food rich waters of Clayoquot
sound.
Many of the gray whale population live in the
Clayoquot Sound area almost year round. Some even stay the whole year.
Total trip time 2 - 3 hours in length. Cameras
are a must.
Transient
Killerwhales that travel the pacific northwest frequent the Clayoquot
Sound on a regular basis on the hunt for food feeding on many number
of marine species.
